At last a win for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League (PL) – and away at that. Yes the first goal was an own-goal from an inswinging corner kick by Son Heung-min who played a “captain’s innings” with his pass to set up the late clincher. In between Brentford pressed hard and made chances , but Spurs were resilient and defended well. How often has that been said this season? Brentford are midtable and secure.

                                                      Chelsea (0) 2 v 1 (1) West Ham United

64 Pedro Neto                                                            42 Jarrod Bowen

 74 Aaron Wan-Bissaka (og.)

Yellows: James, Fernandez, Palmer                Irving           Referee   Stuart Attwell.

Played Monday 3 February 2025 at Stamford Bridge, attendance 39,459.

Form ran true and it is now 7 home wins for Chelsea in the last 9 seasons for this fixture. It was bitter-sweet for West Ham United’s returning Head Coach Graham Potter. Sweet because he had Jarrod Bowen back who scored the best goal of this Premier London Derbies (PLDs) match. Bitter because there were questions about obstruction and offside in the buildup to The Blues’ equalizer, and the winner was an own-goal. Chelsea move up to 4th in the PL with 43 points, and The Hammers are now the lowest placed PLDs Club being 15th with 27 points. Spurs are 14th on goal difference (+11 v -17).

There will not be a North London Derby Carabao/EFL Cup Final after all. Arsenal lost 2-0 away to Newcastle United on Wednesday 5 February (4-0 on aggregate). Spurs lost 4-0 at Liverpool (4-1 on aggregate) without a single shot on target all match! There are no  PLDs matches this weekend it being the FA Cup Fourth Round. Our 4 remaining PLDs Clubs are all away from home. Who said it’s the luck of the draw?

Until next time, “Keep Safe” and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
