Brentford continued their new-found better form with a convincing win against their second Premier London Derbies (PLDs) rivals in two matches, this time West Ham United. The Bees front two – Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney – combined twice for the second-half goals. In contrast this was Hammer’s Michail Antonio’s 12th game without a goal, and his team lacked inspiration and purpose. The Bees have a chance to make it 3 in a row for PLDs wins when they go away to Watford on Saturday 16 April 2022 against a team who are almost down.

West Ham United were perhaps a little jaded after their mid-week 1-1 draw with French side Lyon in their Europa League quarter-final first leg match, in which Spurs loanee/mis-fit Tanguy Ndombele scored for the visitors. They showed none of that in the return leg on Thursday 14 April 2022 storming into a 0-3 lead by 48 minutes which they held on to, reaching their first European competition semi-final for 46 years, against Frankfurt.

Chelsea also played in Europe in their Champions League quarter-final second leg matchaway to Real Madrid in the Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday 12 April 2022. Despite an epic struggle and 3 away goals they lost 5-4 on aggregate succumbing to an extra time winner by Karim Benzema, their hat-trick undoing in the first leg. The Blues are left with the FA Cup to add to their collection and face PLDs rivals Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday 17 April 2022 in the semi-final. You have a feeling Chelsea will be going back to Wembley for the Final. Then on Wednesday 20 April 2022 it is another big PLDs match – Chelsea v Arsenal. These two top our PLDs All-time Table, and the last 5 seasons have produced 2 home wins, 2 draws and an away win for the Gunners in the 2020-21 season. A close one to call.

Until next time, “Keep Safe” and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
