English Premier League (PL) football played in an English winter storm with the Spanish name Herminia was bound to produce misfortune for one team and good fortune for the other. The good fortune for Brentford was being able to retake their penalty when Bryan Mbeumo’s first one came back off the post because Eagles’ Captain Marc Guehi had crossed the line before it was taken. The misfortune was Palace’s defender Maxence Lacroix’s misaimed foot which hit Nathan Collins and not the ball. For The Bees’ Head Coach Thomas Frank this second away win of the season came in his 300th match in charge. Crystal Palace’s consolation late goal came from new signing Romain Esse (no not Eze) on his debut and first touch as a substitute. A day to remember for all!
Brentford are at home for the next Premier London Derbies (PLDs) match which is Brentford v Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 2 February 2025. Past scores have been 2-2, 2-2, and 0-0. That was one of Spurs very infrequent no-score-draws, which just now they would be more than happy with on their current PL form. It is very unlikely and Brentford can expect another home win against this depleted but poor Tottenham Hotspur side despite their UEFA Europa League win on Thursday 30 January 2025.
On Monday 3 February it’s Chelsea v West Ham United. There have been 6 home wins, 1 away (in 2019-20) and 1 draw in the last 8 meetings. This is unlikely to be a “happy home coming” for the Hammers’ latest Head Coach Graham Potter not that he was particularly happy with The Blues either. Perhaps he would be happier in North London next season after another defeat for West Ham United?
Until next time, “Keep Safe” and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
