Congratulations to Chelsea FC who are Premier London Derbies (PLDs) champions again with 7 wins and 21 points from their 10 games against Premier League (PL) London rivals. The table also shows that they finished highest of our London based Clubs in the PL in 3rd place with 74 points (3/74). Watford’s results are not included in this table – they lost all their 10 matches at home and away and were relegated from the PL.
Club. Won Draw Loss Goal Diff. Points
Chelsea (3/74) 7 0 3 +7 21
Arsenal (5/69) 5 1 4 -2 16
Brentford (13/46) 4 3 3 +4 15
Tottenham Hotspur (4/71) 4 1 5 -1 13
Crystal Palace (12/48) 2 4 4 -2 10
West Ham United (7/56) 3 1 6 -6 10
Arsenal were runners-up again, 5 points behind, and one of 4 Clubs with a negative goal difference. They won as many points outside London as their West London rivals (53) but were pipped to 4th and the 4th UEFA Champions League place by arch North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs, with only 13 PLDS points in 4th, won 58 points outside London.
A most creditable 3rd place in the PLDs table went to Brentford, the only other Club with a positive goal difference. Their first season in the PL had looked in jeopardy until Christian Eriksen came along. In the PL they finished two points and one place behind Crystal Palace (13/46 v 12/48), who were 5th in the PLDs table. West Ham United were bottom despite one more win than the Eagles but with 6 defeats and an inferior goal difference –6 v –2.
Next season there will be 7 PLDs Clubs with Fulham back in the frame as promoted EFL Champions. Gaining points from other PLDS Clubs will be even more important, although the Lilywhites and the Hammers both qualified for European football, even if together they only had 2 more points than Premier London Derbies champions Chelsea.
Until next season thank you for reading PLDs and best wishes, Andrew at PLDS.
