“Congratulations to The Gunners and The Hammers.”

Congratulations to an unbeaten Arsenal who top the PLDs table with 10 wins, 2 draws and 32 points out of 36! The Gunners also finished highest in the PL being second to Champions Manchester City with 84 points. Defender William Saliba was in Tony Cascarino’s “Team of the Season” (TotS). In a distant second with 21 PLDs points were Tottenham Hotspur who only lost 3 PLDs matches. One of these was their last home match of the PL season against Brentford. A different result would have given Spurs the last UEFA competitions place, but did they deserve it or the loyalty of record-breaking Harry Kane? He was also in the TotS as was Brentford’s full back Rico Henry. The Bees finished this excellent season only one point and one place in both the PL and PLDs table behind the “Bigger Club”.

Chelsea’s season was a disaster, and they lost their recent dominance in the PLDs mini league finishing 4th. In the PL they were a lowly 12th with 44 points below both Fulham (10th, 52 points) and Crystal Palace (11thon 45). The Eagles were bottom of the PLDs table with only 2 wins and 3 draws, and the worst goal difference of minus 13 ( -13).

That was worse than West Ham United who also had 9 points from PLDs matches and finished lowest of the London Clubs in the PL being 14th on 40 points. Their 6 PLDs points were the difference between PL survival and relegation as was Declan Rice who was in TotS. However, The Hammers season is not over. On Wednesday 7 June 2023 they play Fiorentina of Italy in the UEFA Europa Conference League Final in Budapest, Hungary. Whatever the result may be congratulations to The Hammers for flying London’s flag in Europe to the end!

Our season is over and although we know our readership is very small, thank you for reading us and if you enjoy PLDs content see you next season.  Andrew and Matt at PLDs.
