Fulham, having scored the first goal, had to come from behind to win this last Premier London Derbies (PLDs) match of the 2024-25 Premier League (PL) season. Brentford’s “smash-and-grab” pair of Mbeumo and Wissa had given the hosts a first half lead which would have been more had the visitors’ ‘keeper Leno not saved Mbeumo’s penalty kick. Second half goals by Fulham substitutes Cairney and Wilson gave them all the points. Both Clubs still have a glimpse of the European football competitions next season.
On Saturday 17 May 2025 Crystal Palace made Club history when they beat Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup Final. This was third time lucky for The Eagles and their loyal supporters, although there was nothing lucky about another self-less team performance and another goal by Eberechi Eze. The FA Cup has come home in a way the Final having been played at the original Crystal Palace Stadium from 1895-1915.
Congratulations to Tottenham Hotspur who beat fellow PL strugglers Manchester United 1-0 in the UEFA Europa League Final on Wednesday 21 May 2025. This was not pretty football as befits their 17th and 16th places in the PL. They had however finished 4th and 3rd respectively in the league stage of the UEFA Europa League which justified somewhat their being at least Semi-finalists. 2025-26 will be an uncertain season for both Head Coaches and Clubs in general but Spurs will be in the Champions League.
There are no PLDs matches in the final round of PL matches on Sunday 25 May, but it will be Liverpool, as PL Champions v Crystal Palace as FA Cup Winners. When did such a fixture occur, if at all, on the final day of the season?
Until next time “Keep Safe” and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
