Fulham outplayed and outshone West Ham United in this latest Premier London Derbies (PLDs) match which pushed The Cottagers up to 12th in the Premier League (PL). Both goals were well deserved even though Andreas Pereira’s first came following a mistake by Konstantinos Mavropanos. He started instead of Kurt Zouma who was perhaps being saved, alongside Tomas Soucek, for the Europa League quarter-final second leg against newly crowned Bundesliga Champions Bayer Leverkusen. That went badly for The Hammers too with a late German equalizer from Jeremie Frimpong after an early goal by Michail Antonio giving the visitors a 1-3 aggregate win.
They will have to pick themselves up in the next PLDs match which is Crystal Palace v West Ham United on Sunday 21 April. There have been 2 home wins, 3 aways and 2 draws in the last 7 seasons. The Eagles come to this one after their surprise 0-1 win at Liverpool which dented their PL Championship hopes and will be full of confidence.
Then on Tuesday 23 April 2024 it’s Arsenal v Chelsea – always a big PLDs match. The Gunners were also deflated by their 0-2 home defeat by Aston Villa, then dejected following their UEFA Champions League loss to Bayern Munich. Harry Kane did not score the single winning goal but former Spurs’ defender Eric Dier was “Man of the Match”. The Gunners form is good in this one with 4 wins and a draw in the last 7 but Chelsea are on the up. It can not be 3 defeats in a row for Arsenal – or can it?
Until next time, “Keep Safe” and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
