Despite his Club’s faltering Premier League (PL) form Harry Kane continues to score goals and set records. His winning goal in the Tottenham Hotspur v Crystal Palace Premier London Derbies (PLDs) match on Coronation Day was a classic, fit for a king. He came deep to hit a perfect 30 yards pass out to Pedro Porro on the right wing and then arrived in the 6 yards box to head the cross home. That gave him a new PL record of 10 headed goals in a season (Duncan Ferguson had 9); 50 top-flight London Derby goals (equalling Jimmy Greaves); and now second place in the PL all-time scorers with 209, passing Wayne Rooney but still behind Alan Shearer (260). Both sides had second half chances but there were no more goals.

Elsewhere Arsenal in second place had a good 0-2 win away to third placed Newcastle UnitedBrentford were narrowly beaten 1-0 away to LiverpoolChelsea won at last, away to Bournemouth, 1-3 fielding 7 players 23 years old or younger; and Fulham came back to form with a 5-3 home win v Leicester CityWest Ham United followed their 1-0 home win v Manchester United with a 2-1 home win in the Europa Conference League Semi-final first leg against AZ AlkmaarSaid Benrahma scored in both games and Michail Antonio v AZ Alkmaar. In the EFL Championship Millwall missed out on a play-off place by one point.

The next Premier London Derbies (PLDs) match is Brentford v West Ham United on Sunday 14 May 2023. Last season The Bees did the double over The Hammers the scores being 2-0 at home and 1-2 away with Bryan Mbeumo scoring in both matches. Three more points for the East London side would see them safe in the PL but it is a big ask after their big week.

Until next time, “Keep Safe”, and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
