“PLDs at half-way through season 2023-24.”

We are half-way through the Premier League (PL) 2023-24 season, and our Premier London Derbies (PLDs) Clubs have each played 6 or 7 of their 12 London Derbies in the PL. It is a good time to see where we are at this approximate mid-point.

Club                                       Won       Drawn    Lost       GF     GA  GDiff Points

Arsenal (4/40)                                 2A    2H/1A    1H/1A     9       10       -1          9

Brentford (16/19)                         1H/2A   2H        1H/1A    12    9      +3      11

Chelsea (10/28)                          1H/2A  1H        1H/1A   11    9       +2        10

Crystal Palace (14/21)                      1H   1H/2A     2H/1A   7         8   -1         6

Fulham (13/24)                                2H      2A      2H/1A       9         10  -1         8

Tottenham Hotspur (5/39)           1H/1A       2A       2H      10   11      -1         8

West Ham United (6/34)               1H/2A    1H       2A      10  11      -1        10

The above table shows, in alphabetical order, the statistics so far for our PLDs Clubs in the PLDs matches and in brackets after each Club name their PL position and points gained. Not all Clubs have played the same number of PLDs matches (6 or7) nor PL matches (19 or 20).

No PLDs Club is dominating the season so far. Brentford have the most points with 11 but have played 7 matches against Chelsea’s 6, giving 10 points, as have West Ham United. On points per game and goal difference Chelsea probably head the PLDs table, but their PL performance is disappointing and certainly not value for money spent! Brentford are on a slide down the table at present and on the perilous “one point per game” level at 16th. The Hammers are having their best PL season so far with 34 points from 20 and in 6th place.

Arsenal lead the PLDs Clubs in the PL in 4th place with 40 points from 20 matches, but their PLDs form has been mediocre, with no home wins and a negative goal difference giving 9 points. That’s one more than North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in both PLDs matches (8 from 6) and the PL where they are 5th with 39 points from 20 matches. Both Clubs want the UEFA Champions League, but Arsenal’s case is stronger despite recent form.

Fulham also have 8 PLDs points and a minus one goal difference, but with variable PL form are mid-table (13th) on 24 points. That is one better than Crystal Palace who are currently 14th with 21 points from 20 matches in the PL, again at that ”which way will it go” stage of the season. A good start to 2024 is needed but they are away to Arsenal in their next PLDs match on Saturday 20 January. Before that it’s Chelsea v Fulham on Saturday 13 January. There will be no easy points for anyone in 2024!

Until next time, “Keep Safe” and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
