There are no Premier London Derbies (PLDs) matches in the next round of the Premier League (PL) but all our PLDs Clubs are in action. Brentford, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur are at home on Saturday 27th; Arsenal and Fulham are away on Sunday 28th; and West Ham United play in the Monday match on 29th September. This is another very significant game for The Hammers away v Everton at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool. The Toffees have made a steady start to the 2025-26 season with 2 wins and 7 points from 5 games under David Moyes. Do West Ham United with only one win and three points rue parting with him for a second time?
Midweek it was the English League Cup (EFL/Carabao Cup). Fulham and Chelsea (who had a narrow 1-2 win at my old home Club Lincoln City of League One) joined Brentford and Crystal Palace (who both won on penalties) in the Fourth Round. Arsenal, 0-2 winners at Port Vale, and Tottenham Hotspur, 3-0 winners at home to Doncaster Rovers, are also there. Spurs‘ reward is an away tie v holders Newcastle United where they usually concede a lot of goals. West Ham United were out already.
Two UEFA Competitions have started. In the Champions League Arsenal had a 0-2 away win at Athletic Club of Bilbao; Chelsea lost 1-3 at Bayern Munich where Harry Kane scored twice; and his former PLDs Club Spurs managed a 1-0 win courtesy of an early own goal by visiting Villareal of the Spanish La Liga. There are no PLDs Clubs in the UEFA Europa League Crystal Palace having been “relegated” to the Conference League since their part owner is owner of a Club already there. Nottingham Forest, under former Spurs manager Ange Postecoglu, took their place and drew 2-2 with Real Betis. When The Eagles play on 2 October, v Dynamo Kyiv, it will be at the Motor Lublin Arena in Poland, and not in war-torn Ukraine. PLDs are back on 4 October with Arsenal v West Ham United.
Until next time enjoy your football wherever it may be, Andrew at PLDs.
