“Spurs’ single goal not enough against Hammers.”

West Ham United (1) 1 v 1 (1) Tottenham Hotspur

19 Zouma, assist Bowen                                 5 Johnson, assist Werner

Yellows: Antonio                                                      Romero, Johnson, Bentancur, van de Ven.

Played Tuesday 2 April 2024 at The London Stadium, Referee John Brooks.

For once Tottenham Hotspur scored an early first-half goal – their previous 12 Premier League (PL) goals all being in the second half – but failed to capitalize. Spurs had 68% of the possession, but only 5 corner-kicks against West Ham United’s 9, and both sides had 4 efforts on target. The Hammers’ equalizer came from the impressive Jarrod Bowen’s in-swinging corner which big Kurt Zouma bundled home. The Lilywhites’ goal keeper Guglielmo Vicario has become a target for that tactic. Neither Club wanted to lose this one, but either could have in a frenetic last minute of added time.

Tottenham Hotspur remain in 5th place in the PL two points behind Aston Villa, but with a game in hand. West Ham United are 7th in the Europa Conference League qualification place and are still in the Europa League this season. They have drawn run away Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Quarterfinals, playing in Germany on Thursday 11 April and London on 18th. Bayer Leverkusen will stop the mighty Bayern Munich winning their 12th successive Bundesliga Championship, and Harry Kane his first winner’s medal of any sort.

Before these European fixtures are the Quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League in which Bayern Munich have drawn Arsenal! The first leg is in North London on Tuesday 9 April, and the second leg in Germany on 17 April 2024. Will it be another missed chance for Harry Kane with the German Champions off-form despite his 31 goals and being the first Englishman to score 50 goals in all European competitions?

There are no Premier London Derbies (PLDs) matches this weekend. Andrew at PLDs.
