Crystal Palace’s poor run of form – no win in their last 8 Premier League (PL) games – continued in this Premier London Derbies (PLDs) defeat at home to Chelsea. This was The Blues first away win of the PL season but a convincing one. All Chelsea’s goals were scored before The Eagles young England mid-fielder Adam Wharton was sent off for two Yellow Cards in 6 minutes. Will he be the next one to leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season with Head Coach Oliver Glasner despite the latter’s praise for Crystal Palace’s togetherness and their fans support? It’s always a full house at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace are 10th in the Europa Conference League with 10 points from 6 games and another win should see them into the play-off 16 at least. The initial 8-match stage of the UEFA Champions League is over with 5 English PL Clubs in the top 8 who go straight into the Round of 16. Arsenal top the table with a perfect 8 wins one being against 2nd placed Bayern Munich. Liverpool are 3rd on 18 points, and Tottenham Hotspur a surprising 4th after their 0-2 away win v Eintracht Frankfurt. Chelsea were 6th and above 8th placed Manchester City on goal difference. Newcastle United are 12th with 14 points and in the 16 Clubs play-off draw. Such is the strength of the PL.

The next PLDs match is Chelsea v West Ham United on Saturday 31 January 2026. This should be a straightforward home win for Chelsea as 7 of the last 9 consecutive meetings have been, but there are signs of growing confidence for The Hammers.

Until next time “Keep Safe” and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
