“The International Break and Captain Kane”

Although there have been no PLDs in the last few weeks, ex-PLDs player, former son of Tottenham Hotspur, and current Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been rather busy.

On duty for England, he provided a visionary, crossfield, longball to Kyle Walker to equalise against a resilient Ukraine at the Wroclaw Stadium, Poland. He also played a hand in England’s dominant defeat of Scotland at Hampden Park, snaffling a goal on the 80th minute from a superb Jude Bellingham assist. This was Captain Kane’s 8th England goal in 8 matches, quite a feat.

Meanwhile, since joining Bayern, Kane has scored a stellar 5 goals and had two assists. Most recently scoring a penalty on Wednesday night in Bayern’s 4-3 victory against Manchester United. One could argue, at least from a Tottenham fan’s perspective, that Kane continues to work for the club, playing a stealthy role in undermining the progress and success of Premier League rivals. This opinion holds water, but only as long as Tottenham fail to qualify for European football! Regardless of one’s allegiances though, it’s a pleasure to see such a great practitioner of the game in such fine fettle.

We return to PLD action on Saturday 23rd September with Crystal Palace versus Fulham. Previous scores include 0-3 in 2022-23; 0-0 in 2020-21; and 2-0 in 2018-19.

And on Sunday 24 September, it’s the old grudge match, Arsenal versus Spurs. Previous scores include 3-1 in 2022-23; 3-1 in 2021-22; 2-2 in 2019-20; 4-2 in 2018-19; 2-0 in 2017-18 and 1-1 in 2016-17.

Until next time, enjoy your football, whoever you support, Matt at PLDS.
