Chelsea’s hold over Tottenham Hotspur continued with the Blues 2-0 win in the Premier League (PL) in the latest Premier London Derbies (PLDs) match. That makes it 10 consecutive matches for Spurs without a win against these opponents and 6 in a row without scoring. For Chelsea it was 3 welcome points after only getting 11 in their last 9 PL matches which strengthened their 3rd position.

The match revolved around Chelsea’s highly experienced central defender Thiago Silva. In the 39th minute of an evenly contested first-half Harry Kane appeared to be giving himself more room to take a cross from Ryan Sessegnon by holding Silva off at arm’s length. His shot found the net but the defender was sprawled on the ground 2-3 metres away, and the “goal” was disallowed for a foul.

Typically Spurs resistance crumbled in the first 10 minutes of the second-half as they were caught cold by a wonderful strike by Hakim Ziyech, who did not go to the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament, on 47 minutes. Then 8 minutes later it was Thiago Silva again out jumping the Spurs defence to head Mason Mount’s cross into the net where Kane had “scored”. Three wins for the Blues over the Lilywhites in 19 days.  Remembering last week’s Blog there were only 3 Yellow cards – one to that man Silva!

There is now a PL winter-break of sorts punctuated by the FA Cup 4th Round on the first weekend of February. Then PLDs matches are back on Tuesday 8 February 2022 when its West Ham United v Watford with their new Manager Roy Hodgson back in his 17th job.

Until next time, “Keep Safe” and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
