“West Ham 1-0 winners again but Arsenal next.”

 Fulham (0) 0 v 1 (1) West Ham United

This was a dour game with a dour score-line but another very valuable 3 points for West Ham United. It was lucky 13 for their Manager David Moyes who has had 9 wins and 4 draws in his past 13 league matches against Fulham. The home Manager – Marco Silva – spent the match in the stand and rood the role of VAR in allowing The Hammers’ goal to stand. There may have been a good case for handball by Vladimir Coufal in the build-up to Harrison Reed’s own goal deflecting in Jarrod Bowen’s cross. Also banned from the pitch was Aleksandar Mitrovic and without him Fulham’s attack was toothless.

While a place in European football is looking increasingly less likely for Fulham now, West Ham United are still there. They drew 1-1 away to KAA Gent in Belgium on Thursday 13 April in the first leg of their Europa Conference League quarter final. Success in this competition and Premier League (PL) survival should also mean their Manager’s survival.

There is no respite for some since our next Premier London Derbies (PLDs) match is West Ham United v Arsenal on Sunday 16 April 2023. Results in the last 6 seasons have been 1 home win, 2 draws and 3 away wins, that in 2016-17 season being 1-5 to The Gunners. That was the score last time The Hammers were at home ( v Newcastle United).  Will another resolute display by their defence be enough or will Arsenal triumph again?

Until next time, “Keep Safe” and enjoy your football, Andrew at PLDs.
