It seems a little early in the 2026-27 Premier League (PL) season to be talking of relegation but three of our Premier London Derbies (PLDs) Clubs are already showing worrying signs. Crystal Palace, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur all have 1.0 or less points per game after 7 PL rounds. They have 4 wins in 21 PL matches between them. One point per game means 38 points in the season which may be close enough to the magic 40 points to avoid relegation but only if there are three other teams worse than you. Spurs had 41 points last season and relegated West Ham United 39 points.
Crystal Palace (14th with 7 points) look mathematically the safest so far but have 4 defeats already and the worst goal difference (-8) in the PL alongside Coventry City (17th with 6 points) and Sunderland (20th with 4 points). The Eagles have a new manager and the distraction of the UEFA Europa League in which they drew 2-2 v Besiktas.
Fulham (18th with 5 points) recorded their first PL win of the season 1-0 v Hull City under Head Coach Alvaro Arbeola who is new to the brutal competition of the PL. Their starlet Josh King will be a January transfer window target for many.
Then there’s Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs (16th with 6 points) had their first PL win 3-1 v Coventry City on Monday 19 October 2026. The return of James Maddison and potentially Dejan Kulusevski cannot hide their frailty and underachievement, despite lavish overspending in the summer transfer window.
The next PLDs match is Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 24 October 2026. This is a battle the North Londoners have not won in 30 years. Even a draw would leave them on less than one point per game and needing at least one point per game for the next 30 matches to be safe. To get near achieving European football, which they wrongly think their financial status and heritage deserves, they would need to average two points per game.
There’s a long way to go for these three Clubs this season, and it is all going to be uphill.
Until next time, enjoy your football, Andrew at premierlondonderbies.com .
